The role

As a Building Engineer at Cambio, you will play a critical role in collaborating with our customers to implement their net-zero strategy for building sustainability. You will work alongside our Data Science team and our decarbonization machine learning models to analyze and implement best-in-class, energy-saving retrofit recommendations at our customers’ properties. Your expertise in building science and engineering will not only help ensure that our model-recommended solutions are practical, effective, and aligned with industry standards but also push forward the capabilities of our automated decarbonization platform.

What you will be doing

• Building Retrofit Analytics: Apply Cambio’s best-in-class ML models to generate energy conservation meausures at hyper-scale for our real-estate customer
• Customer Collaboration: Work closely with commercial real estate owners to understand their needs and develop their path to net zero across their portfolios.
• Compliance and Regulatory Analysis: Assist in delivering retrofit projects which comply with local, state, and federal regulations and help improve Cambio’s automated regulatory analytics.
• Performance Monitoring: Monitor the performance of retrofitted buildings and help analyze pre- and post-retrofit energy outcomes, cost savings, and carbon impact to further improve Cambio’s impact for customers.
• Data Science Collaboration: Work alongside our Data Science team to expand and refine the physics-based building science models underlying the Cambio decarbonization platform, e.g., by integrating data from building science datasets to improve the accuracy and effectiveness of model retrofit recommendations.

Impact

In this role, you will achieve the following key accomplishments in your first 12-18 months:

1. Successfully help our customers implement retrofit projects that significantly reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions across their portfolios.
2. Establish strong relationships with top real estate investor customers, serving as a trusted advisor as they deploy capital assets to decarbonize commercial real estate.
3. Improve Cambio’s machine learning models by applying building engineering expertise to enhance model effectiveness.
4. Contribute to the development of best practices and standards for building decarbonization within Cambio.
5. Provide insights and feedback to our product and engineering teams to continuously improve our platform.

Qualifications

• Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Building Science, Engineering, or a related field. Professional Engineer (P. Eng or P.E.) designation preferred.
• Experience: 5+ years of experience in building engineering, with a focus on retrofit projects and energy efficiency.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in building systems analysis and construction implementation, including systems design, site evaluation, energy modeling, and cost estimation.
• Analytical Ability: Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data from various sources and make data-driven recommendations.
• Project Management: Proven experience in managing retrofit projects from conception to completion.
• Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of building codes, standards, and regulations related to energy efficiency and decarbonization.
• Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
• Team Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, and customer success.

Logistics:

• Work Authorization: Authorization to work in the United States or Canada is required.
• Location: While this is a primarily remote role, we generally hire out of 3 hubs—San Francisco, New York and Toronto—so being located in or near one of these cities is preferred.
• Compensation: This role is currently set at a salary range of ~$140,000-160,000.
